The Library (LRC) is situated at the heart of the school and is open to all students during break times, private study periods and after-school.

Opening times
Monday – Friday: 8.00am – 4.30pm

The library houses most of the LRC’s physical resources, which includes fiction and non-fiction books, magazines and journals, and has comfortable chairs, cushions and bean bags to create a relaxed reading environment. The area also provides computers, study spaces and small group tables for independent and quiet revision.

All students receive a library induction at the start of Year 7 and Year 12, and are encouraged to recommend new additions to the library stock throughout the year. Many act as library helpers during the busy lunchtime period, volunteer as student archivists assisting with the school’s archive.

The Library (LRC) is a vibrant study space that inspires and nurtures students’ love of reading and literacy. Students can write book reviews and make recommendations, participate in shadowing schemes, book clubs and judging panels, talk to authors, poets and illustrators, or take part in fundraising readathons.

At The Quest Academy, reading is at the heart of our curriculum. During tutor time, students take part in a structured reading programme where they explore a carefully selected range of high-quality texts, guided by their tutor. These texts are chosen to reflect a breadth of themes, cultures and experiences – from identity and resilience to history and social issues; supporting both personal development and academic progress. Through regular reading, discussion and reflection, students develop their literacy skills, broaden their vocabulary, and build confidence in expressing their ideas. The programme also promotes empathy, critical thinking and a lifelong love of reading, ensuring all students are exposed to meaningful and engaging literature throughout their time at Quest.

Supporting Reading at Home

Parents and carers can support their child’s reading at home by encouraging regular reading, discussing texts together, and exploring a range of genres. Useful free resources such as BBC Bitesize and the National Literacy Trust also provide guidance, reading recommendations and activities to support reading development beyond the classroom.
