The trip started off following registration and an update from the teachers around 9:30. In the update we were given some information about the Tate Modern along with some questions. We went down to our local tram station. At this point, everyone was behaving themselves and the weather was perfect!

We were asked to think about the following questions during our travels:

What do you expect when you think of Modern Art?  What ideas would you like to explore during your visit to the galleries?

Here are some people who answered those questions:

  • Wahaab had thought it would be quite good.
  • Dashan thinks modern art is like fashion.
  • Imaan would like to see races (as in skin colour).
  • Evie said she expects a lot of different colours and shapes.
  • Oliver P wants to explore some eye-catching pieces.

We arrived at the train station around 10:15. We were told we would get on the Cambridge train at 10:31.

We arrived at London Blackfriars at 12:50 (a 19 minute trip on train) and proceeded to walk to Tate Modern, where we took a group picture. We also took some pictures of the gallery when we got in. We started with the tanks and then went into a red room which was unusual.

On the next floor, there was information on some artists. We spoke to some students:

  • Ashiah is liking the trip as it is unique and likes all the art pieces.
  • Christina said she saw some different races of people.
  • Amiah said that the trip is going good, and very calm.

What sounds do you hear in the gallery? What do you think of the building? What shapes can you find?

  • Dominik could hear some echoes and voices.
  • Nurajanah thinks the building is quite massive.
  • Oliver M can find circles, semi/circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, pyramids, triangular prisms, crescents and diamonds.
  • Christina finds some of the art pieces quite old.
  • Akira would tell someone that they looked a little weird (the art).

By now, it’s been over an hour since getting to Tate Modern and we had done a lot of walking.  We had visited both sides of the museum.  A lot of pictures, photos and creations were seen.  There were a lot of people there and you could see that quite a few were from other schools.  It was really enjoyable as it definitely allowed us to bond with each other and the whole day was a good experience.

We arrive at Blackfriars’s station again around 12:35, waiting for our train that departs at 12:54.

Nonetheless, good conversations were created and we all had a fun time.

While on the way back, we noticed we were on coach 3 this time. At last, the train was finally going fast. By now, it was 13:04, so we waited ten minutes for the train to do its job and go fast.

If the train could get to East Croydon in under 19 minutes, it would beat the first train, but it had already been 13 minutes, so it was doubtful! At 13:10, a red flag signal was raised, so we stopped for 2 minutes. It was 13:20 when we reached East Croydon.
