On Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July Year 10 Geography students headed into Stratford for the first part of their compulsory GCSE fieldwork.

Students were investigating whether regeneration has a positive effect on quality of life. We visited two contrasting sites during the day. The first site was Carpenters Estate where students completed environmental quality surveys and field sketches. We then walked through Carpenters Estate, into the Olympic Park before heading towards East Village. We made other stops on the way so students could gain an understanding of the area from the impact of the closure of the London Docklands to the Olympic Legacy and regeneration as a result of this.

At our final stop, East Village, students completed their environmental quality surveys and field sketches again. Back in the classroom, students are now presenting their data, drawing conclusions and evaluating their fieldwork.

We will be visiting Walton-On-The-Naze in September for the other half of the field work where students will be looking at the effectiveness of hard engineering on controlling longshore drift.
