Earlier this term, a determined group of our Duke of Edinburgh participants embarked on a challenging and inspiring expedition at the Ern Croft Activity Centre, set in the heart of the sun-drenched New Forest.

Over 2 days of intense heat and bright skies, students demonstrated remarkable resilience and independence as they navigated woodland trails, carried full expedition packs, and camped overnight in the open air. The unusually hot weather added a new layer of challenge. Students had to manage hydration, sun protection, and fatigue as they trekked across open terrain. Their ability to adapt and support one another under pressure was impressive. From mastering navigation with maps and compasses to preparing meals on portable stoves after long hikes, each student rose to the occasion with focus and determination.

The experience also fostered real camaraderie. Whether it was encouraging a teammate through the final kilometres or sharing laughs at the campsite, our students showed teamwork, maturity, and a genuine sense of pride in their progress. Staff praised their positive attitudes, problem-solving, and the resilience they displayed in the face of physical and mental challenge.

We are incredibly proud of how every student embraced the opportunity and embodied the spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. They return not only one step closer to achieving their qualification, but also with lasting memories, stronger friendships, and a clearer understanding of just how capable they truly are.
