Congratulations to Corporal Ryan Donnelly, Lance Corporat Shanti Harbourne and Cadet Charlie Shine for completing the SNCO weekend in the Brecon Beacons.

On Friday, 28th September over 30 army cadets between the ages of 14-18 participated in the contingent’s SNCO selection weekend in the Brecon Beacons. The terrain of the Brecon Beacons and particularly Pen y Fan is nationally recognised for its challenge for military training. The cadets’ training was preceded by Field Day at Trinity School in which they participated in shooting, drill competitions, aircraft and field signal recognition and a very challenging stretcher race.

The selected cadets of Trinity School and The Quest Academy started their weekend with a series of physical tests which included a swim test, the bleep test push up and sit up tests. This year as part of the training, cadets climbed Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales and participated in a challenging written test which was followed by a presentation and self evaluation. The PLTs undertaken on Sunday morning were varied and clearly demonstrated a range of leadership and problem-solving skills. Amongst these tests were some undertaken by executives of large companies.

Once the activities ended, most cadets slept soundly on the coach returning to Croydon, arriving on Sunday evening in high spirits.
